Disengage

Disengage

Disengage is an action you can take on your turn that lets you move away from enemies safely.

  • When you take the Disengage action, your movement doesn't provoke Opportunity Attacks for the rest of the current turn.
  • This protects every bit of movement you make that turn, not just your first step away, so you can leave the reach of multiple foes without triggering their Reactions.
  • It only stops Opportunity Attacks. It doesn't grant extra movement, end other Reactions or triggered effects, or shield you from attacks you provoke in other ways.
  • The benefit lasts until the end of your turn and does not carry into anyone else's turn.

Some features let you Disengage as a Bonus Action instead of an action. Recall that an Opportunity Attack is normally triggered when you leave a hostile creature's reach (within 5 feet) using your movement; Disengage is the standard way to avoid it.
