Surrounded by looming walls of shrieking fog and forever trapped between dusk and the Witching Hour, Druskenvald is a realm made from the stuff of nightmares. Equal parts dreamland and afterlife, it beckons forth departed souls to be reborn into strange new folk that call this sinister place home. Lurking within the shadows of the night that never stops are ancient and terrible things that even the lord of the land forgot. Whether living or dead, heroic or humble, none are safe from the beasts that stalk the deepest woods and darkest hearts beneath the Crooked Moon.

A self-contained demiplane where the living, dead, and everything in between can coexist — its landmass hewn into the shape of a crescent moon, flanked by looming mountain peaks, spanning thirteen major provinces each with a wholly distinct biome and climate. The laws of nature and logic have no dominion over a place that is just as much nightmare and folktale as it is a land to explore.

A partially ruined church of marble and granite, its furnishings long stripped away, cloth tarps covering empty window frames. New wooden construction shows someone is slowly reclaiming the space. Standing watch over the altar is an 8-foot statue of a praying knight with a sour grimace — the villagers call him the Man in Marble and consider him a protector of the town.

The village constabulary, run by Constable Doris Squire and her deputy Howie Butterman. The ground floor holds the offices and a sturdy jail with barred cells used to sober up the rowdy or cool down the violent. Both officers live in apartments above.

Haunted Investigation Combat

Resting on a hill overlooking Wickermoor Village, the Druskenvald Estate sits like an overgrown weed waiting to be plucked. Its strangely askew construction gives the impression the building is perpetually mid-collapse. It was long abandoned before Mayor Somerton gifted it to Phillip Druskenvald. What has happened inside since then defies easy explanation. Weasels haunt its walls. A hag named Fesla Browntooth is said to lurk in the attic. The spirit board in the drawing room communicates with the murdered butler Petrieni. A very good dog named Shuck holds the master key and roams the halls freely. Multiple floors of increasingly strange rooms await anyone bold enough to explore them.

The circular park at the heart of Wickermoor Village serves as the town square. Its two focal points are the Oak of Many Faces — an ancient, sacred tree whose bark is carved with the faces — and the featureless Founder's Statue, whose name and origin have been lost entirely to time.

The tall clocktower attached to the Mayor's manor has kept perfect time for as long as anyone can remember — except when it strikes at random, outside any scheduled hour. The villagers know from long experience that a random strike means something strange is about to happen.

📖┃heylings-bookstore

Eleanor Heyling's antique bookshop, crammed floor to ceiling with books of every variety alongside paper, parchment, and writing supplies. The second floor holds her bookbinding and ink-making equipment. Eleanor has a sharp eye for a rare tome and a sharp tongue for anyone who handles her stock carelessly.

The offices of Mayor Wendel Somerton — a modest manor with robust administrative offices attached. The offices are open from the Twilight Hour through Nightfall for official village business. The residential wing is private, home to Wendel, his wife Myrtle, and their daughter Rose. The mayor is a man who keeps a meticulous records.

Morgan's Apothecary offers herbal remedies, salves, and potions of healing. The villagers swear by Morgan's concoctions despite their uncertain medicinal value. Morgan is a gentle, slight figure with reddish-blonde hair and green eyes that seem perpetually elsewhere — they suffer from blackouts and remember nothing of their childhood.

Haunted Investigation

At the end of a lane of abandoned homes in the oldest part of the village stands the most derelict house of all. Village children dare each other to go inside. None who have taken the dare have ever returned to tell what they found.

Randall Graham keeps a clean barbershop, with moonshine from an on-site still serving as a social lubricant. The most reliably lively spot in town for gossip, news, and a decent haircut.

🐦┃the-dovecote

A surprisingly large dovecote housing the carrier pigeons used by the post office. Curiously peaceful for its size, the cooing strangely muffled. The townsfolk treat it as an unremarkable annex to the post office next door and pay it little mind.

🍹┃the-green-queen-inn

One of the largest buildings in the village, the Green Queen Inn contains rooms for rent, a tavern and restaurant, a small theatre, and an attached stable. It is the social heart of Wickermoor Village — the main stop for travellers from across the hollow, and the place where locals come to drown their fears in strong drink. The tavern caters to all tastes and means. The theatre hosts occasional acts, from lowbrow entertainment to something more cerebral; performers who find their way here always find an attentive audience. Some guests have reported strange dreams and waking in unexpected places. Alda Farnum runs the establishment with a friendly smile that never quite reaches her eyes.

The site where the Ghostlight Express came to rest after its catastrophic crash. Burned and twisted wreckage of the locomotive lies scattered across the moor at the edge of Wickermoor Hollow, still faintly warm in places, smelling of char and something stranger. This is where most of the survivors first regained consciousness on the soil of Druskenvald. The wreckage is a jarring reminder that whatever brought everyone here was no accident. The surrounding ground is scorched, the earth gouged by the impact. Locals avoid it. No one has come to clear it.

🪙┃tollivers-trading-post

Although Wickermoor Hollow sees little trade with the wider provinces of Druskenvald, anything of value to the village can be found here. Staple goods fill the large front area alongside more exotic wares — simple weapons, trade goods, unusual oddities. If Baltus Tolliver doesn't have it, he knows how to get it. Baltus is a well-travelled man who returned to the village a decade ago with wealth, lavish goods, and the contacts to source almost anything. He runs the shop with a blend of charm and quiet intimidation.

Beatrice Wells's carpentry workshop, dealing in furniture, wagons, farming implements, and structural repairs throughout the village. Lumber and boards are stacked inside and leaning against the outer walls. A master of her craft and a dependable, practical presence in Wickermoor Village.

📚┃wickermoor-schoolhouse

The village's one-room schoolhouse, run by the enthusiastic teacher Finneas Trout. Desks, books, maps, and rickety playground equipment outside. Contains a surprisingly thorough collection of books on the history of Wickermoor Village and the hollow.

🌲┃wickermoor-woods

The dark woodland and gloomy moors surrounding Wickermoor Hollow stretch in every direction. The trek between communities takes hours through these woods — paths are poorly marked and the canopy blocks what little light the sky offers. Rumours circulate among the villagers: lights seen deep in the trees at odd hours, trees with faces carved into or grown into their bark, sounds that don't match any animal they can name. Not recommended for solo travel, and the locals will say so plainly to anyone who asks.
